Jewellers robbed of gold, cash

It took the four thieves just minutes to waylay a father-son duo of jewellers, smash up their car and rob them of 2.2 kg of gold and Rs 20,000 in Powai on Tuesday.
Suresh Kawadiya (42) and his son Dharmendra (27) were returning in their Santro to their Malad home after meeting their client at Navi Mumbai when four armed men overtook their car near at NTPC quarters, threatened them and fled with the valuables.
“On Tuesday, they had made deliveries in Hiranandani, Govandi and Vashi and were passing through the NTPC quarters when three men wielding a revolver, chopper and an iron rod accosted them. They broke the car’s windowpanes and snatched the bag containing 2.2 kg of gold worth Rs 29.7 lakh and fled. They even pocketed the Kawadiyas’ car keys,” said Ashok Pardhi.
Suresh told HT: “The robbers were professionals who were only interested in the jewellery and cash.”
“We have booked three unidentified men for robbery and possession of arms. We are making sketches of the accused,” Pardhi added.
