Union minister and Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Friday challenged the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for a public debate on any issue and questioned the source of funding for his rallies. This drew a sharp reaction from the BJP as many party leaders Sibal to first debate with them.

“I challenge Modi for a debate on any issue on any platform and in any language, be it Hindi or English. Let him decide the day, subject, place and language,” Sibal said after launching his personal website.

“`10 to 15 crore is being spent on stadiums where Modi is addressing his rallies. It should be investigated as to what kind of money is used to fund these rallies,” he said.

In an apparent reference to Sibal’s attack, Modi hit back saying it is the arrogant Congress which isn’t responding to the questions raised by the people.

“The Congress is so arrogant, it does not answer even the media. The PM is Manmohan Singh and the government is theirs, yet they are seeking answers from Modi,” he said, addressing a rally at Pune.

“It is your duty to reply to the public,” Modi said.
