WAKING UP from slumber, the BJP has finally decided to take up the issue of police brutality on hapless villagers of Kapli with Director-General of Police (DGP) Yashpal Singh. The callous approach of BJP leaders can be gauged from the fact that the area where the incident took place falls in the constituency of BJP MLA Prem Lata Katiyar. And a much-belated response to such a sensitive issue has already raised many an eyebrow.

The callous approach of BJP leaders can be gauged from the fact that the area where the incident took place falls in the constituency of BJP MLA Prem Lata Katiyar. And a much-belated response to such a sensitive issue has already raised many an eyebrow.
Although the party cites pre-occupation of Katiyar in Meerut, the fact remains the party indeed was left far behind in ‘who takes-it-up-better race’. The Congress and the Left parties were quick to jump on the issue and turn it in burning one with Union MoS for home Sriprakash Jaiswal even seeking a report from the home secretary, whereas the party’s preference to do things differently cost it dearly.
Certainly this on back of the mind, the party leaders along with villagers will meet the DGP on February 4. The delegation will be led by district BJP president Rakesh Sonkar and senior BJP leaders Prem Lata Katiyar, Jagatveer Singh Drone and Satish Mahana.
Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, Sonkar accused the police personnel of committing atrocities on hapless villagers of Kapli. “This barbaric incident will be taken up with the highest authorities of the State, including the DGP,” stated Sonkar.
It may be recalled that one Ram Prakash Kushwaha of Kapli village, Panki was crushed to death by a dumper of a private construction company engaged in the construction of a road at Panki. Enraged over the incident about 300 villagers went on the rampage and burnt 12 heavy vehicles used in the construction of the road. It was after an hour that the police were able to control the angry villagers.
However, purely as a sign of vindictive policy hundreds of police personnel of Panki and its adjoining police stations led by SP (Rural) raided the Kapli village late on Sunday night and arrested 61 innocent villagers.
Sonkar also said that the issue would be taken up with the BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan who would be in the city on February 3. MLA Katiyar blamed the district administration for the police brutality on innocent villagers.
Nothing less than an FIR against police personnel involved in the incident would be accepted by the party, stated Katiyar.
