Karnataka: Sushma tweets against BJP-BSR alliance

Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj took to Twitter on Thursday to lay bare differences between her and other BJP leaders, triggered by issues like the BSR alliance and Venod Sharma’s entry into the party.
Condemning Karnataka MLA B Sriramulu’s entry to the party fold, she said she was against such a move. Sushma also tweeted against NDA ally Haryana Janhit Congress’s proposal to induct controversial Congress MLA from Ambala, Venod Sharma. Swaraj wrote to BJP chief Rajnath Singh opposing BJP’s merger with Sriramulu’s BSR Congress and also spoke to HJC chief Kuldeep Bishnoi expressing her views on Sharma.
“I have conveyed to Rajnath Singh in writing that BJP must not permit this (BSR merger),” Swaraj wrote on Twitter, adding, “ I am opposed to the BSR alliance or merger with BJP in Karnataka.”
“I am opposed to the BSR alliance or merger with BJP in Karnataka,” Swaraj tweeted on Thursday.

In a separate tweet, she wrote, “I am strongly opposed to this (Venod Sharma entry into HJC). I have conveyed my views to Shri Kuldeep Bishnoi.”
After Swaraj’s outburst on Twitter, former Karnataka chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda told reporters that the state unit wanted all former leaders of the BJP to return to add to its strength ahead of the polls.
Sriramulu had announced in Bellary on Wednesday that he would merge with the BJP. The matter is expected to come up for discussion in a meeting of top BJP leaders on March 8.
Swaraj’s patronage to the Bellary brothers — Janardhana, Karunakara and Somashekhara Reddy — has always been a subject of discussion, though she has consistently denied her patronage. Swaraj is apparently miffed at his growing marginalisation in the party and her tweets were seen in the party circle as a muscle flexing exercise to send a message to the party leadership.
