This is the first time in several years that a doctor has been appointed head of the hospital superseding half a dozen seniors.

The promotion and posting of Dr N C Agrawal, who is junior to six doctors of the hospital, has reportedly not gone down well with aspirants for the post of Head of Medical Services feel let down by the corporate management’s move.

Dr Agrawal was transferred from Haridwar and posted as General Manager, Bhopal a couple of months ago. His posting superseding six doctors, has demoralised those affected. “Never in the history of Kasturba Hospital has such a step been taken,” said a doctor who was denied promotion.

Talking to Hindustan Times requesting anonymity, the senior doctor admitted the management’s move had sent wrong signals. However, supporters of the new head of the hospital opine that by posting a young doctor, corporate management had given a message that they wanted someone who had adequate time to head the hospital.

Doctors who are senior to the present head include Dr Pushpa Talwar, Dr P K Rai, Dr Indu Sharma, Dr Renu Rawal, Dr A K Vandre and Dr Chourey.
