KGMU EC meet likely to be stormy

THE 44-POINT agenda is likely to make the KGMU Executive Council meeting on June 27 stormy and lengthy. Some non-serious points on the agenda include provision for cell phones for the hostel provosts, revocation of suspension order for students accused of violence on campus and affiliation to Vivekanand Polyclinic for a nursing course.

Some non-serious points on the agenda include provision for cell phones for the hostel provosts, revocation of suspension order for students accused of violence on campus and affiliation to Vivekanand Polyclinic for a nursing course.

Provosts presently have the facility of a landline connection at their residence but the request from a few provosts for cell phone is going to make the debate heated in the meeting.

The decision to revoke suspension of students is merely a formality after the enquiry committee already gave them a clean chit while the inspection report at Vivekanand Polyclinic recommends that the polyclinic runs the course. Heated debate is expected over claims by some teachers for promotion on the basis of non-teaching performance. Some teachers have claimed extension up till the age of 65 though the facility provided by the UGC does not covers the KG Medical University.

There are 44 points in the agenda and the meeting could be the longest one in the history of the medical university.
