THE DIRECTORATE of local bodies has released the leftover amount to the local bodies of various districts.

The amount includes the Kanpur Municipal Corporation’s share of Rs 19 crore.

The release of this amount has helped the Kanpur Municipal Corporation heave a sighof relief, though for the time being.

At a time, when the Kanpur Municipal Corporation was finding it difficult to disburse the salary of its employees and meet other expenses, the release of the amount has certainly come as a relief for the Kanpur Municpal Corporation.

The directorate of local bodies, after the approval of the State Finance Commission, has released Rs 293 crore throughout the State as leftover amount which is meant for 2003-04 and 2004-05.

While a sum of Rs 84.82 crore was released to all State municipal corporations, the rest would go to other local bodies.

While the Kanpur Municipal Corporation would get an amount of Rs 19.05 crore, the Agra Municipal Corporation Rs 12.47 crore, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC)Rs 11.31 crore, the Meerut Municipal Corporation (MMC) Rs 8.88 crore, the GhaziabadMunicipalCorporation (gmc) would be given Rs 7.49 crore.

After the Kanpur civic body authorities had promised to disburse two months’ salary, bonus and pensions, the agitating employees called off their strike but the authorities were finding it hard to disburse the amount due to lack of funds.

The release of Rs 19 crore would naturally help the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) authorities heave a sigh of relief.
