Koirala (83) has not been keeping well for the last few months and will return after one week, a leader of the Nepali Congress Party said.
The Prime Miniter's personal doctor, Madhu Ghimire, Dr Shashank Koirala and officials of the foreign ministry have accompanied him.
Koirala had cancelled the medical check up tour a few weeks ago to visit India at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
