Delhi Daredevils skipper Gautam Gambhir today said he would prefer to play away matches in the Indian Premier League as Firozshah Kotla wicket is not as good for 20-over cricket as pitches in Bangalore and Kolkata.
"I personally would prefer to play away matches as a batsman and bowler. Wickets in Bangalore and Kolkata and other parts of India are better than what we have here for Twenty20.
"It is difficult to play shots and score runs here. You don't get value for your shots here," Gambhir said after their seven-wicket loss at the hands of Kings XI Punjab here.
However, Gambhir didn't blame the Kotla wicket for their defeat to Punjab.
"Pitches are slow here but we didn't play well at all. We won an important toss and even though we lost wickets, we should have reached around 150-160, especially when we have nine batsman in our side. Our performance was pretty below par," Gambhir said.
"We gave up the momentum after losing to Kolkata (Knight Riders) and we hate to be in a situation where we have to win two out of three matches. We will have to give everything that we have in the next matches," he added.
Asked if the team is not contributing as a unit, Gambhir said two loses doesn't mean that.
"Just because we lost two matches doesn't mean we are not contributing as a team. Today was one of those days when we failed as a team but we will bounce back," he said.
Going great guns, Gambhir succumbed to his third run out today and the left-handed batsman said he is frustrated.
"It is very frustrating to lose your wicket in a run out. I made a blunder in Kolkata, it was my call but getting a start and then losing wickets of run-outs is very frustrating. I hope it doesn't stretch from three to four in the next match," he said.
Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab bowler Piyush Chawla said the recent win against Mumbai Indians and Daredevils, where he took three and two wickets respectively, have boosted his confidence and it will come handy in the Twenty20 World Cup.
"We have beaten two strong teams in the last two matches and I have bowled well in both of them. It has boosted the morale of the team and I'll carry this confidence in the Twenty20 world cup," he said.
"At the start of the IPL also I was bowling well but I didn't get wickets, may be I didn't have luck but now I am in a good rhythm and confident of getting wickets anytime," he added.
