The Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) will no longer enjoy the discretion of deciding who will get admission in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) under his quota.
Instead, a three-member committee will make the recommendations for admissions. HRD Minister Arjun Singh on Friday constituted a three-member committee, headed by Joint Secretary (Secondary Education) with Commissioner and Joint Commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan as members.
He also finalised the admission guidelines. As per the guidelines, children belonging to the SC/ST, OBC, minorities, disabled children, single girl child and children of single parents will be given priority.
The guidelines also say that children, who were hit by natural calamities or mass violence in the past year, and children of parents serving in forces will get admission on priority.
Similarly, recipients of the National Bravery Award or Balshree Award, children whose parents are teachers and recipients of national awards for teachers, and children who have shown special talent at national and state levels will also be accommodated.
The scheme will be applicable for admissions after March 30, the last day for regular admission in Kendriya Vidyalayas.
