Temporary teachers had organised a statewide rally to demand regularisation of service. They also planned to submit a charter of demands to Hooda. When the protesters began marching to his local residence, they were halted by the police.

The district administration urged them to hand over their memorandum to the deputy commissioner. But the teachers insisted on an audience with the CM or his son, MP Deepender Hooda.

When the protesters tried to continue their march, the police resorted to lathicharge. The teachers retaliated, pelting stones. But the protesters couldn’t sustain the fight for long as the police lobbed teargas shells.

Eyewitnesses said the police used brute force on the agitators.
