Lawyer, two others held with narcotics

THE SOG and Dhumanganj police busted a gang involved in selling narcotics and arrested a lawyer and two others, near the IIIT-A crossing during a routine checking drive of vehicles.

They also recovered half kg smack worth Rs 50 lakh and one kg opium worth Rs 10 lakh.

Police identified them as Kamlesh Yadav the gang’s kingpin. He was operating under the garb of a High Court lawyer from his residence on Circular Road.

The other person Madhvendra Yadav, son of a retired Dy SP, is a senior block pramukh from Tharwai, Soraon, and Raju Mehtar, who is also a corporator from the Cantonment Board. Raju is said to be a historysheeter with fourteen criminal cases against him.

The arrest came after CO Rajeshwar Singh and SP City RPS Yadav had organised a drive against illegal vehicles in the area, The trio after being spotted on a motorbike with no registration number were signalled to stop.

Though they tried to escape but were nabbed by the SOG and the Dhumanganj cops deployed on duty, informed the CO.
