LAWYERS OF the Collectorate court were on collision course on the issue of construction of the advocates’ chamber at the district Collectorate here on Monday.
While one group was in favour of construction of a chamber, the other wanted the construction of a hall with the funds provided by the State Government.
Talking to mediapersons former president of District Lawyers Association Gaya Narain Lal Srivastav and others claimed said the association members were in favour of the construction of the hall to accommodate maximum lawyers.
He said that only 36 lawyers could be accommodated in a chamber. But the hall would be able to accommodate about 200 lawyers.
Srivastav blamed the newly elected office-bearers of the district lawyers’ association for violating the rules and ignoring the will of the majority.
He even said that the lawyers handed over a memorandum to the district magistrate in this regard. The ADM (city) has inspected the site on directive of district magistrate Dr Hariom.
He said that the lawyers would oppose tooth and claw the move to construct the chamber.
Strongly condemning the stand of the former president of the District Lawyers’ Association, newly elected president Radheshyam Shukla, secretary Suryabhan Singh and advocate Abdus Salil said that the State Government started construction of advocates’ chamber by investing Rs 49 lakh. The same amount was received for construction of chamber at the District Collectorate.
They said some lawyers were creating hindrance in construction of the chamber. This should be condemned, he said Shukla said that in general body meeting of the association held on August 30, the majority of lawyers was in favour of construction of the chamber.
He said the they could not change government scheme.
He appealed to the lawyers to sink their differences and pave the way for construction of the chamber.
