Eminent Oriya litterateur Sarat Kumar Mohanty passed away at a private hospitalin Bhubaneswaron Saturday night, family sources said on Sunday.
Mohanty (68), who was an educationist and retired from government service as a bureaucrat, was a thought-provoking writer.
He is survived by his wife and only daughter Nibedita who is an Oriya film actress.
Mohanty had stirred a controversy when he refused to accept the prestigious Orissa Sahitya Akademi and Sarala awards as he viewed such honours differently.
He, however, was presented the Kendriya Sahitya Akademi award in 2002.
Mohanty had attracted attention for a number of his books including 'Gandhi Manisha', 'Sanskruti o Apasanskruti', 'Astitwabadara Marmakatha' and 'Jean Paul Sartre'.
He also wrote regular columns for Oriya newspapers.
A number of prominent writers, poets, authors and educationists visited his residence here to pay their last respects to the departed soul.
