The bulletin said Jha was started on broad spectrum antibiotics. His elevated blood sugar level was being controlled with oral drugs and insulin injection. All vital parameters, including blood pressure and blood sugar, were stable, it said.

Investigations had revealed a 'likely inflammatory lesion' (abscess) in the left iliopsoas region, it said.

The Lt Governor was first treated at Pondicherry after his fall on March 26 and had a check up. He was then taken to the Sri Ramachandra Medical at Chennai, discharged on March 28 and taken to the Raj Bhavan in Chennai.

However, Jha felt pain on the left side of his back that evening and was again admitted to the Ramachandra Medical centre on March 29.
