The girl had sustained 60 injuries, including eight major ante-mortem wounds of sharpedged weapon. The assailant caused her such gruesome injuries that her left kidney was badly ruptured, leading to excessive bleeding. Her private parts had several injuries, which clearly pointed towards rape.

These facts were revealed in the post-mortem examination of the girl’s body that was conducted by a panel of three doctors on Tuesday. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) J Ravinder Goud confirmed that the post-mortem report had ascertained the girl was sexually assaulted and murdered by causing grievous injuries.

He said an FIR of rape and murder had been registered and police were trying to zero in on the assailant or assailants after collecting details from the girl’s mother about her disappearance on Sunday night.

“Injuries found on the body suggest that it is an act of a psychopath. A normal person would not do such a gruesome deed,” said a medical staff involved in the post-mortem examination.

He said the injuries on private parts indicate that she was raped, but the doctors’ panel has sent the vaginal swab for further examination to get more confirmation about their findings. He said the panel had also sent the girl’s nail cutting with the aim to get the assailant’s DNA sample.

The girl had disappeared after midnight of Sunday/Monday when she, along with her widow mother, was sleeping on the pavement near Mithaiwala crossing in Gomti Nagar. Her body was later found surrounded by stray dogs on Monday morning a few metres away from the crossing.

The girl’s mother, who earns a living by selling household items, had alleged that the child was kidnapped, raped and then killed but the local cops ignored her pleas.

The cops, however, in a bid to hush up the matter had claimed earlier that the girl was killed after she was attacked by stray dogs when she had gone to attend nature’s call.
