According to Sanjeev Dey, secretary of Lukerganj Club Durga Puja Barwari, the puja pandal is being shaped in the replica of Victoria Memorial. "The artistes from Kolkata are busy shaping the pandal under the guidance of Kanu Babu 'Decorator' from Varanasi, who is famous for constructing the pandals of varied shapes and sizes.

Lighting inside the pandals would be arranged by the artistes invited from Chandan Nagar, Hugli, said Dey.

The festival will be marked with various cultural events which will be held late in the evening. Bengali and Hindi plays and musical programmes will be the highlight of the event. The puja will be inaugurated on September 25 by the saints of Ram Krishna Mission. Anand Mela will be held on September 26.

"We will hold four-day cultural programme after Vijayadashmi, which will comprise events such as dance-drama, folk songs and other items. Besides the local artsites, talents from other states will also be invited," said Dey.

"It is our attempt to celebrate the festival with a difference this year and to accommodate as many people in this celebration as possible," he added.
