Raja Sahni committed at least 20 thefts in less than a month with the help of his two associates, a fact that Sahni admitted to police after his arrest. And he did all this to present his girlfriend precious gifts, Sahni told the station house officers (SHOs) of Chhatauni and Town police stations at Motihari, about 140 km northwest of Patna, during interrogation.
Chhatauni SHO Ram Pukar Singh and Town police station SHO Karm Lal said Mohammad Sonu and Wasim Ali, who were arrested with Sahni, used to sell their share of booty. But, Sahni always gifted his share to his beloved, Poonam Devi, they added.
Singh and Lal said the police, on the basis of leads provided by Sahni, conducted a raid at house of Poonam and recovered stolen goods. The recovered goods included television sets, cameras, VCDs, DVDs and voltage stabilizers, they said. The police also stumbled upon cosmetics of reputed brands-imported soaps, talcum powder, face-wash, deodorants, lipsticks, body lotions, and moisturisers-stalked in a briefcase.
