THE INDORE High Court has given stay in connection with the cancellation of lease of Masonic Lodge by the district administration and has directed that status-quo be maintained till the next hearing.

The 2.56 acre land where the Masonic Lodge stands is situated in Residency Area, and had been taken over by the district administration on December 31, 2005 for non-payment of lease rent.

In the writ petition filed on behalf of the Masonic Lodge, which was heard by Justice N K Modi, the petitioner contended that they had purchased the land from Seth Jadulal and have possession of the lodge since 1913 and that it was not Government land.

After taking possession of the lodge, the administration had given the land to City Transport Company, who had started construction of a bus stand on the land. The writ petition asked the High Court to direct that construction be stopped as the owners of Masonic Lodge have challenged the district administration’s action of taking over the Masonic Lodge at the Additional Commissioner’s court.

Advocate Shekhar Bhargava and Vivek Patwa represented the owners of Masonic Lodge.
