State BJP general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty alleged that the Meghalaya government "is either being taken for a ride by Assam or is maintaining silence under some compulsion towards Assam."

Terming the incident as a ploy by the Assam goverment to encroach land, he claimed, "the Assam government in a well-planned manner is defending encroached land and making innocent people of a particular community soft targets."

He claimed that a 'powerful Assam minister' was dictating to his partymen in Meghalaya.”
