A moderate earthquake measuring an estimated 4.5 on the Richter scale shook Tokyo and its vicinity on Saturday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The earthquake occurred at 1:58 pm (0458 GMT) with its epicentre located in the south of the Boso peninsula some 60 kilometres (40 miles) south east of Tokyo, the agency said.

Its focus was about 80 kilometres (50 miles) below the ground level.
