Mirwaiz warns against dividing J-K

Referring to a recent move to give more administrative powers to autonomous Ladakh Hill Development Council, a constituent of the Kashmir region, the Mirwaiz said, "Such sensitive step has every possibility to lead towards disintegration of the state, which, in turn, will create unstable political environment in the region as a whole."
The Mirwaiz said any effort to divide Jammu and Kashmir would be unacceptable to the Hurriyat. "We will resist it tooth and nail," he said.
He said the Hurriyat talks about Jammu and Kashmir that existed in 1947. "It means the Kashmir Valley, Jammu division, Northern Areas of Pakistan, Ladakh, and Azad Kashmir comprise the geographical entity of Jammu and Kashmir," he said.
The Hurriyat chairman said the demand raised by communal parties to split Kashmir was based on "fanatic political thinking". "It can become the major cause of uncertainty and violence," he warned.
He asked Pakistan and India to allow people of "all five regions across the divide to interact so that they can hammer out a solution regarding their political future".
Meanwhile, he greeted Mamnoon Hussein for being elected president of Pakistan. "Kashmiris desire that Pakistan should formulate a comprehensive strategy and policy regarding the Kashmir issue," he added.
