The Mizoram government will approach the Centre on banning the 'Da Vinci Code' novel and film.

A council of Ministers' meeting held on the issue also decided to submit a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, requesting the Centre to exercise extraordinary powers to ban the film, the official sources informed on Monday.

The Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute committee, the largest church denomination in the state, had already condemned the film and urged both the state and Central governments to ban the screening of the film.

The Deputy Commissioner of Serchhip district had already issued an order banning the screening of the film within his jurisdiction.

Seven states all over India had already banned the screening of film.
