The body of Pratap Pawar (31) was found near the rail track at village Pachama, police sources said.

Before taking the extreme step, Pawar had talked to his wife, they added.

The young leader was actively involved in the civic body elections in Sehore. Pawar's family members said he was in a state of shock after the poll results were declared on January 8 in which Congress was humbled by BJP.

Pawar looked after the electioneering of Rakesh Rai - Congress candidate for the Municipality Chairman's post. Rai lost elections to a BJP nominee.

He was a dedicated partyman and had worked with NSUI and Seva Dal, a local Congress leader said, adding the party has lost civic body polls in the district for the first time in 40 years.
