Mukherjee to head ministerial group on aviation

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will head the group of ministers on aviation and the new policy for the sector has been referred to the panel for deliberations.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will head the group of ministers on aviation and the new policy for the sector has been referred to the panel for deliberations, an official statement said on Monday.

The members of the group include Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Defence Minister AK Antony, Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel.

The draft civil aviation policy, among other things proposes to ease the rules for Indian carriers to fly overseas.

The other members are Tourism Minister Ambika Soni, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Shipping, Road Transport Minister TR Baalu, Law Minister HR Bhardwaj and Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy.
