Jamaat has decided to play an active role in the elections by convincing people to vote for democratic and secular candidates to defeat BJP, its national President Abdul Haq Ansari told reporters here.

He charged that BJP's background and support base are "fundamentalist" organisations like VHP and Bajrang Dal who thrive on the ideology of Hindu rule ignoring pluralistic character of Indian society, adding NDA is nothing but a front to further the BJP agenda in disguise against which a new secular alliance would have to be formed.

On Muslim leaders joining the BJP, he claimed that those joining the Saffron party or supporting it had no base in Muslim masses and they were doing it for personal gains.

Ansari also released a 'people's manifesto' for the Lok Sabha polls calling for ending all kind of discriminations despite constitutional provisions and laws giving representation to minority people.
