Muslim Forum calls for political alternative

With parties like the BJP, the BSP and the SP deviating from their policies, there was a need to evolve a new political alternative in the State, Muslim Forum president Nihaluddin told reporters here. Successive governments had hampered development and divided society on caste lines, he said.
Referring to the Samajwadi Party, Nihaluddin said it was similar to the BJP as both thrived on communalism and had divided society into Muslim and Hindu camps. Former Prime Minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh and representatives of CPI-ML had been invited to participate in the conference, he said. Advocating a separate quota for backward Muslims, Nihaluddin said some political parties had given benefits to some castes in the name of reservation, defeating the very purpose of ameliorating the lot of backward castes.
Nihaluddin blamed the State Government for the Mau riots and demanded a CBI probe, adding that an impartial inquiry was required.
