According to HBTI registrar TDS Chauhan, online counselling was being held at 10 colleges in Kanpur, Allahabad, Lucknow, Mathura, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Bareilly. On the first day of counseling, candidates in all categories from rank 1 to 5,000 had been called. Counselling was expected to end on July 22. Special counselling for reserved categories would be held from July 24 to July 27, the registrar said.
Over 3,500 candidates arrived at the Institute on the firs day of the counselling and most of them opted for Computer Science, Information Technology and Electronics as first choice and preferred HBTI among the colleges. The institute has made elaborate arrangements to hold peaceful counseling on all 16 days.
According to Chauhan, it was the first time candidates would get an opportunity to complete the counselling session sitting in fully air-conditioned rooms. About 24 ACs were installed at the computer rooms with a view to upgrading the department of Computer Science and Engineering, he added.
He said in the event of power roistering, the 75 KVA generator would be put into service which would keep at least a few air-conditioners on during counselling hours. Period of counselling would depend on the number of students, he added.
Three nationalised banks, including Bank of India, Canara Bank and the Central Bank of India, have put up their respective educational loan counters to assist students who needed information about obtaining loan for studies.
Besides providing medical health care services and making arrangements for potable water on the campus for the candidates, the institute has also arranged a Notary on the campus to issue affidavits to students at a cost of Rs 30.
The registrar said this time candidates would be given back their original certificates immediately after verification unlike earlier, when they had to wait for about 20 days to get their original testimonials back.
