How often have you spent a bomb on a bite or a drink, and then returned home to realise that the venue had an ongoing offer that you could have availed of, only if someone had told you about it? The new app, Citypal, which went live for iOS on March 14, and for Android on May 3, attempts to solve that problem for you by listing deals and offers at over 1,500 restaurants and lounges in Mumbai.
“This is an issue everyone faces. You never know which credit card has what offer at which restaurant or what deals group-buying companies are offering. This app is a convenient way to check them out,” says Pavan Hemdev, founder, Citypal. The app currently lists nearly 3,000 offers at city eateries and lounges that could help you avail a 20 to 30 per cent discount.
“We also list places that offer seven-course meals for nominal prices or restaurants that just have a better dining experience than others,” he says.
Citypal uses location technology to pinpoint deals in the area and can work with or without the use of GPS. “This negates the need to use the Internet. Our accuracy without GPS is up to 600 m,” says Hemdev. And the app itself works like a mix of various social-media platforms. Like Foursquare, you need to check in to restaurants. It also has a feature similar to the Twitter feed that lists discounts in the area that you are currently in. Around 650 to 680 people have downloaded the app since its launch.
In the near future, Hemdev plans to include listings of events taking place in Mumbai to the app too. “We also want to introduce a loyalty programme for patrons who frequent particular restaurants or those who use the app often. We also plan to launch a Windows version of the app soon,” he adds.
