He is the new kid on the block, raring to make a splash in the music world. But that is not to say he hasn’t had his fair share of stage limelight. For 24 year old Sawan Nichani, singing is a passion, having been involved in musicals like Delhi Music Theatre’s production Grease, as well as being part of Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan, which was staged at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. Besides Sawan has also performed in Kathmandu, Jodhpur besides various private functions.

Sawan’s soon-to-hit-the-music-world debut album, Chalo Baby, is a mix of English, Hindi and Punjabi numbers. And he has just finished shooting the Chalo Baby and Kabhi bole haan kabhi bole naa music videos that are directed by Anand Kumar. The videos have been choreographed by Fatima Khanam.

“I have taken inspiration from country music and combined it with pop and Bhangra beat, since I have grown up listening to country music,” says Sawan. Indeed, what he has been able to come up with is a sound that will appeal to young club and pub hoppers. “The beat is smooth yet fast, and it is sure to get the young people rocking,” says Sawan who likes to listen to country singer Garth Brooks.

But he has a greater inspiration closer home too. “Bobby Cash is someone who I really admire. He is really big in Australia. Like him I too am from Dehradun, though Delhi is now my home,” he says.

Lawyer Dahlia Sen, sister of Palash Sen, has written the lyrics of the song Kabhi haan kabhi naa, while the rest have been penned by Virag Mishra of the Allah ke bande (Waisa Bhi Hota Hai: Part II) fame. “I love to compose my own music. As a team along with my brother Sameer, we have worked together as music directors. One of our favourite is Bobby Cash’s Cowboy at heart, which was released in Australia,” says Sawan.

With talent, determination and passion, Sawan is optimistic about his future in the music industry. Never mind the fact that he comes from a business family. “I have been blessed with a good voice and I am willing to do hard work,” he says. With the new album about to hit the market he will definitely need all the luck.
