An analysis of the manner in which senior police officers have been going about with the crime drive makes one feel so.
Six encounters from February 2 this year till date took place yet no action against mafiosi has been taken in Allahabad, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh and Kaushambi-- the four districts which come under Allahabad range. There's an added element of surprise in the case of a district as big as Allahabad.
In the eyes of cops there are only three mafiosi operating in this district despite the fact that they have sprung up like mushrooms in every nook and corner of the district. Whether in the field of land, sand, contract, education, liquor or coal, mafiosi are everywhere.
There's another interesting fact. Those listed as mafiosi in this district are insignificant beings who are neither spotted anywhere nor their activities felt. This also leads to a doubt as to whether they deserved to be declared as mafiosi or not and whether the police has done something in their case for which it is infamous for branding a person big criminal even when he is not.
Be that as it may. Vijay Singh Gaur is a mafia who has five members in his gang, Javed has six and Amit Kumar alias Babloo has two members.
In the neighbouring Kaushambi district Ram Asrey alias Bachcha Pandey has five active members, Shiv Sagar Singh (killed last year by rivals) gang's five members are quite active and Shiv Pratap Singh has nine members.
In Pratapgarh it is the gang of Adesh Kumar Pandey and Indra Raman Singh alias Raju which are active.
Cops in Fatehpur, one of the most criminal districts, have gone a step ahead by declaring the district as no mafia zone even though this breed is operating in this district with impunity in many fields.
Sources said, mafiosi in this district have an advantage over their counterparts in other districts because they are close to the corridors of power.
