All the parents have a common grievance. Police, according to them, was making no efforts to find the girls. Instead of helping us the cops derive some kind of pleasure in holding the girls responsible for all that has happened, said the father of a girl who wishes not to be named. Not only this in nearly all the cases cops are not ready to accept the real age of the girls even in cases where the age is clearly mentioned in the high school certificate.

Only one girl out of the above lot --Neha (name changed) daughter of Bhagwati Prasad Sen--reached the police station on Wednesday night and declared that she would not leave the person with whom she had eloped. She is reported to have appeared at the police station after police exerted pressure on the uncle of Tunmun who is reported to have married her in a temple. Tunmun's uncle is a police inspector. Police for the time being has sent her to the Mahila Thana.

Tunmun, who is said to have a criminal record, is married with three children. His eldest daughter is nearly Neha's age. Police tried to pursuade her to give up her decision but she refuses to listen. She also says that she is an adult.

Krishna Raj, a private guard, allegedly kidnapped another girl Rita (name changed) from near her house in Rajruppur locality on July 12 this year. Though the accused surrendered before the police but the girl is still untraceable.

According to the girl's father Ramesh Tewari the cops were seemingly making no efforts even after the girl rang up from Lucknow and begged him to get her rescued from the clutches of her abductors who were torturing her. The father himself went to Lucknow after tracing the number of the PCO through which the call had been made on his mobile but to no avail. He even met the Lucknow SSP but no progress has been made till now. The girl is still untraceable.

Ramadhar (name changed on request) father of Nupur (name changed) who is in the railways had been making all efforts to trace his minor daughter who was enticed away by the one Rinku Sardar on May 2 this year. The girl's mother has met the SSP and several other police officers and has been assured help which is yet to come.

Family members of Ragini, Rohini, Mita, Shailja and Pushpa are in the same boat.

They have been waiting impatiently for the police of the area to come to their rescue and restore their daughters.

Interestingly, station officer Avinash Chandra Sinha had no idea that eight girls were missing from the area. He said, he joined only a month ago and hence would take some time to stop such cases because preventive action cannot be exercised in such incidents.
