NO SAMPLES of dead birds except the 12 sent from Nandurbar in Maharashtra last week to the High Security Animal Disease Laboratory (HSADL) at Bhopal have tested positive.

“We have received no more bird flu positive samples after the initial ones from Maharashtra,”’ confirmed HSADL in-charge director Dr H K Pradhan while talking to Hindustan Times today. The laboratory is continuously monitoring the situation and so far there is no reason to panic, he added.

Ever since the bird flu scare struck the country last week, workload in this little-known laboratory in the outskirt of Bhopal has mounted manifold.

The day after the bird flu hit the country, a team of Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) rushed to the laboratory headed by director general Mangla Rai, according to sources. Preparations in the lab were thoroughly reviewed.
