North-East shaken by moderate earthquakes

Three mild earthquakes shook various places in the North eastern region within eight hours since midnight, officials said in Shillong today.

Three mild earthquakes shook various places in the North eastern region within eight hours since midnight, officials said in Shillong on Tuesday.

A moderate intensity earthquake, measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale, was felt in Assam, Meghalaya and neighbouring states at 12.43 am.

Its epicentre was located at Barpeta in Assam by Central Seismological Observatory.

A light intensity earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale shook Meghalaya and parts of Assam at 7.52 am followed by another quake, measuring 2.4 in the scale, at 8:16 am.

Epicentre of both the quakes were located in Shillong.

There was no report of damage or casualty. People rushed out of their homes when they felt the second quake this morning that lasted for over 15 seconds.
