Talking to mediapersons here today, national coordinator of the party’s minority cell Tanveer Ahmed Usmani said the ‘moderate’ Muslims were fed up with the deceitful functioning of the Samajwadi Party and Congress’ selection of candidate. “They have made up their minds to vote in favour of the saffron party,” Usmani said.
He said to give impetus to the election campaign of the party in the State, programmes of the State BJP leaders had been fixed while time had been sought from the national leaders.
He promised that problems related to the Kanpur Municipal Corporation, of its employees and the beneficiaries, would be sorted once BJP candidate Ravindra Patni was elected the mayor.
Earlier, spokesman for the party for the local bodies election and MLA from Cantt Satish Mahana said the Congress candidate was a political greenhorn.
He said Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal had termed Anil Sharma, the Congress’ mayoral candidate in the last local bodies election, as decorative. “In fact, Jaiswal protégé Badri Narayan Tewari was a dummy and decorative candidate,” he added.
On Neeraj Chaturvedi, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader said Samajwadi Party workers and traditional Muslim voters were not accepting him. In such circumstances, only Patni was acceptable to all and would come out with flying colours in the mayoral election, he said.
