Pressure would be mounted on governments for amendment in Journalist Act, new wage commission for journalists besides pension and insurance facilities, said newly elected president of NUJ Nandkishore Trikha at a press conference in Hindi Bhavan today. He was here to participate in NUJ’s 14th convention.

Expressing concern over deteriorating standard of both journalism, he said that NUJ has been active for a long time for welfare of journalists.

It had presented a pension proposal to the Union Government way back in 1984, which the then Union Finance Minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari had endorsed and also announced its execution.

Talking about the NUJ convention in Bhopal, he said that Governor Dr Balram Jakhar would inaugurate it on January 21 and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will be the chief guest at the concluding ceremony on January 23.

In the first session, new office-bearers of the outfit would be elected. Resolutions on organisational matters would be adopted in the second session. Cultural programmes would also be held on the evening of January 22, the second day of convention.
