IN A sensational case in the City today, an old couple was found murdered at their residence at Marwari Road. The two were found lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds. The deceased were identified as Chhaganlal Mittal, 76, and his wife Krishna Bai Mittal, 70.
According to Superintendent of Police Anant Kumar Singh, upon return from shop, Sunil, the youngest son of the couple found his parents murdered. He immediately reported the matter to police.
From stab wounds, the SP said, vengeance appeared to be the motive. Chhaganlal was found dead in a room on the first floor of the house with multiple stab wounds on chest and his wife was found in the kitchen with similar wounds on neck and ribs.
The deceased had three sons and two daughters, the eldest of them, Navin, died in 1990. The second son, Anil, a divorcee, who severed relations with the family, had left home some three years ago back. His whereabouts are not known. The third son Sunil, also a divorcee, runs a ‘Chunni’ shop at Chowk Bazaar.
According to police, in his report, Sunil said when he came home for lunch, his mother was alone at home and father had gone out. He had left for shop at 2 pm and in the evening after closing his shop, he came home and found parents killed.
According to sources, Sunil’s wife had allegedly lodged a report in the past with the police against her husband and in-laws for allegedly torturing her for dowry. It is also said that police had then taken the deceased and their son in custody. Later, Sunil got divorced. The deceased has two married daughters.
According to police, some items were found scattered in the room where the murder was committed. The almirah was lying open. “But it can’t be said with surety whether there had been any loot,” the SP added.
As per the forensic source, the murder might have taken place around 4 pm today. The police registered a case of murder.
