On Day 1, two candidates file papers for Noida seat

Election process for polls in various assembly seats in UP, including Noida, Dadri and Jewar, started on Thursday with candidates filing their nomination papers. Kapil Datta reports.

Election process for polls in various assembly seats in UP, including Noida, Dadri and Jewar, started on Thursday with candidates filing their nomination papers.

BJP candidate and owner of Kailash Hospital Mahesh Sharma and Samajwadi party nominee Sunil Chaudhary filed their papers as the ball was set rolling for the sixth phase of polling.

Chaudhary, along with his wife and party workers, reached a sector 20 temple to seek blessings. Around 100 workers in a dozen cars also accompanied them. Before proceeding to the collectorate, they also visited a sector 40 temple.

Meanwhile, sector 15A resident Mahesh Sharma sought blessings at the sector 18 gurudwara. He paid a visit at a temple in Sector 19 too. Around 300 BJP workers accompanied him.

The nomination process for the upcoming polls will end on February 9 and residents will cast their ballot on February 28.

"While February 10 is the deadline for scrutiny of nominations, candidates can withdraw their application till February 13," said a senior official.

Meanwhile, central forces have reached UP after holding polls in other states. As part of the security arrangements, makeshift posts will be set up in sensitive areas.

"Arrangements are being made for security forces to stay here. More forces are being deployed near sensitive booths," said district magistrate Hridesh Kumar.
