At least 150 people gathered at the Singapore Khalsa Association premises under the banner of SingOriya and celebrated the day on Saturday, organising committee member Hiranmaya Dash said.

The event was organised by the SingOriya Committee.

"Efforts were made so that people coming to the event have a home-like atmosphere and feel he or she is in Orissa and not in a foreign country," said Dash.

The five-hour function was nostalgic and the moment the projector flashed everyone was reminisced of past events with Oriya music in the background.

Well-known singer Manaswini Kar sang a devotional Oriya song and a few energetic and active kids performed the famous Sambalpuri dance.

Competitions for kids were also held. The gathering welcomed Oriyas who had recently come to Singapore and attended the event for the first time. The celebration ended after a mass feast.
