Patients feel the heat at defaulter hospital

The Hallet Hospital, attached to the Ganesh Shanker Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College, had to pay electricity bills to the tune of Rs 3.5 crore.
Following a dialogue between the GSVM Medical College Principal Dr SK Katiyar and the general manager KESCo PC Chaudhary, the power supply was restored.
Talking to HT, hospital junior engineer AK Vishwakarma said that the hospital had deposited Rs 1.5 crore as first installment against the dues about a week back but still the KESCo officials did not pay any heed to the same.
The KESCo officials said that if the payment was not made, the power supply would be snapped again after a week.
Operations could be performed with the help of generators. The Hallet Hospital consumes electricity worth Rs 12 lakh per month.
KESCo officials reached the hospital at 11 am and snapped the electricity supply. This created a flutter among the hospital staff. The chief medical superintendent and other hospital staff requested the KESCo officials to restore supply, but they did not pay any heed to their request. The principal held a dialogue with the general manager at 7 pm and the power supply was restored.
The GM said that the power supply was restored keeping in mind the problems being faced by the patients. However, if the payment was not made, the supply would be snapped again, the GM said. The junior engineer citing reason said that no budget had been allocated for the payment of electricity bill.This led to non-payment for the last two years, he added.
