Officials said the meeting lasted for one hour.

"The two leaders discussed the forthcoming budget session of Parliament, the issue of price rise and food security and various other issues of national and international importance," said a statement issued in New Delhi.

The budget session of parliament will begin on Feb 22 and conclude on May 7, with a long break of more than three weeks in between.

The president will make the customary address to the joint session of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, marking the beginning of the fourth session of the 15th Lok Sabha.
