PM Modi asks for #SelfieWithDaughter, Twitter erupts in response

But what caught attention was his request to people to post selfies with their daughters on social media with #SelfieWithDaughter in order to promote the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojna'.Updated: Jun 28, 2015 22:33 IST
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged people to join the 'Selfie With Daughter' initiative on Twitter, saying it would give hope in the combat against plummeting sex ratios in some parts of the country.
"In Haryana, a village Sarpanch initiated a #SelfieWithDaughter initiative. I urge all of you, share a #SelfieWithDaughter. Also share a tagline that will encourage 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'," Prime Minister Modi said while addressing the nation in the ninth edition of his 'Mann Ki Baat' programme. Modi launched the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana' in January to boost welfare services for females across the country.
Following the launch, a village panchayat in Haryana's Bibipur village announced a competition for the "best selfie with daughters”. The contest soon became popular on social media.
