PM to visit New York Stock Exchange

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to meet the chief executives of some of the top American companies at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on September 22 when he will also visit the trading floor of the world's biggest stock exchange.

His two-hour schedule at the Wall Street bourse includes a speech, a high-power lunch with guests and a visit to the NYSE's bell podium and the trading floor, exchange officials said.
The bourse's chief executive officer, John A. Thain, is also likely to moderate a question and answer session with the prime minister thereafter.
Deputy Chairman of India's Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahulwalia, a former World Bank official, is expected to accompany the prime minister for the luncheon meeting at the exchange, officials indicated.
New York Stock Exchange has seven Indian companies listed on the bourse - Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, Satyam Computers, Videsh Sanchar Nigam and Wipro.
The NYSE has also made provisions to telecast Manmohan Sigh's speech live for viewers in India. Besides, the speech can also be heard by calling 608-250-9281, officials added.
