Police gun down notorious criminal in U P

Police in Ghaziabad town of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday shot dead a notorious criminal, trying to flee after carrying out a robbery.

The shoot-out followed the two motorcycle-borne criminals robbing a trader of Rs.55,000 and his motorcycle near Sai Upvan under Sihani Gate police station of Ghaziabad.

The victim informed the police control room following which the various police stations were given instructions to conduct extensive checking, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Brijraj Meena said.

A team from Vijay Nagar police station tried to stop two persons on a motorcycle near Santosh Medical College at Pratap Vihar. However, instead of stopping, the two opened fire at the police, which the police returned. One of the two was hit and fell along with the motorcycle while his accomplice succeeded in escaping.

The injured criminal was rushed to the local district hospital where he was declared brought dead.

On the basis of the documents recovered from his possession, he was identified as Naushad of Muzaffar Nagar, a dreaded criminal of the area having about two dozen criminal cases registered against him in different police stations of Muzaffar Nagar, Meerut, Baghpat, Haridwar and Ghaziabad.

A member of Saleem Langra gang of Muzaffar Nagar, he also carried a reward of Rs.10,000, Meena said.
