In a bid to check horse-trading, the State Election Commission has given only three days time between the nomination process and voting.
The nomination process will be held on February 20 and February 21 will be the last date for withdrawing nomination papers.
Meanwhile, contestants for the post have started mobilising support of panchayat members.
They are reportedly leaving no stone unturned to lure members of the block development council. The contestants organised a feast and arranged for a picnic to lure voters.
In this election, the prestige of senior politicians is linked with the defeat and victory of their respective candidates. The saffron brigade and the Samajwadi Party are likely to be in a direct contest. After winning the zila panchayat chairperson’s election, the SP has its eyes set on the block pramukh election.
Jungle Kauria block is considered to be a stronghold of the saffron brigade, and Rampati has been the block pramukh for the last three decades. However, this time, since the saffron brigade reportedly did not seem to be in a mood to nominate Rampati, he switched his loyalty to the SP.
In Gola block, former Cabinet minister Markandey Chand is trying hard to ensure the victory of his son.
