Poll shadow over Indira Gandhi?s death anniv

CIVIC BODY election cast its shadow over the death anniversary of former prime minister, late Indira Gandhi, here in Varanasi on Tuesday. Almost the entire party functionary was engaged in civic body election due to which the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi remained a low key affair the whole day.

Neither Congress nor any of its frontal organisations including District Congress Committee, Mahanagar Congress Committee, Congress Sewa Dal, District Women Congress Committee, District Youth Congress Committee and Rahul Gandhi Youth Brigade etc organised any function to commemorate the death anniversary of the former prime minister.

As per information, only one formal function of Congress Party was held by its frontal organisation, Mahanagar Sonia Gandhi Brigade, at Rathyatra Crossing in the morning today.

Brigade activists including Mukund Yadav, Lallu Keshari, Munnalal Chaurasia, Ghurelal and Somaru Nishad observed Indira Gandhi’s death anniversary as Sankalp Diwas’.

In a release, member of All India Congress Committee, Anil Kumar Singh, said that late Indira Gandhi would always be remembered as a leader who sacrificed her life for fighting terrorism.

President of District Congress Committee, Harishchandra Singh, who was engaged in campaigning for Gangapur Nagar Panchayat election, said that the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi could not be observed due to civic body election today.

“Yes, we could not organise any formal function to commemorate the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi due to civic body election today”, said Harishchandra Singh, adding, “Some informal functions will be organised after 5 pm. when the election is over”.
