Power failure plunges Kashmir into darkness

Electricity poles broke and wires snapped under the weight of heavy snowfall in Kashmir plunging the valley into complete darkness.
Supply in certain areas was deliberately cut offdue to the heavy snowfall as itposed a risk to the lives of the people.
The international airport was shut down due to poor visibility and heavy snow cover on the runway.
The Srinagar-Jammu national highway was alsoclosed for the second consecutive day as most parts of it werecovered with snow.
The snowfall, which began on Sunday and stopped in early Tuesday morning, took its toll as electric poles were broken at many places and wires connecting the supply stations to the consumers were snapped.
