President Pranab Mukherjee cut short his visit to Odisha and returned to Delhi at midnight on Friday after his wife Suvra fell ill and was hospitalised.

President Pranab Mukherjee cut short his visit to Odisha and returned to Delhi at midnight on Friday after his wife Suvra fell ill and was hospitalised.

On landing in Delhi, the President drove straight to the Army's Research and Referral Hospital in Cantonment area to see his wife.

Suvra Mukherjee was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital earlier in the evening after complaining of breathlessness and discomfort.

"Mrs Mukherjee has not been keeping well. She has had a history of heart ailment and was feeling unusually breathless today (Friday). She was brought to us in the evening," said a source in the hospital, requesting anonymity.

The spokesperson at Rashtrapati Bhavan confirmed the news to Hindustan Times.

Doctors refused to comment on her condition but the sources claimed she is not likely to be discharged anytime soon.
