President to visit Yanam on June 29

President APJ Abdul Kalam would be on a one-day visit to Yanam on June 29, Puducherry Local Administration Minister Malladi Krisha Rao said on Thursday.

Yanam is an enclave of the Union Territory in Andhra Pradesh.

The President would lay the corner stone for the Yanam tower which would be constructed at a cost of Rs 40 crore. He would also launch the same day a Health Insurance Scheme and address a meeting of students. Students from north eastern states and Puducherry would participate, the minister said.

He also said that Puducherry Lt Governor Mukut Mithi and Chief Minister N Rangasamy would be on a two-day visit to yanam region from June 28.

The Lt Governor would commission on June 28 the Rs 9 crore sub-station besides declaring open the new premises of the SRG Degree college constructed at a cost of Rs 1 crore.

The chief minister would declare open the new premises of a government school which had been constructed at a cost of Rs 60 lakh. He would also distribute the same day free LPG cylinders to the people coming under below poverty line.

The chief minister would unveil statues of Jawaharlal Nehru and the former central minister and champion of Dalits Jagjivan Ram. Foundation will be laid for municipal bus terminal which would be constructed at a cost of Rs 77 lakh, he added.
