The procession was led by student leader Dr Ramesh Verma and Dr Satiram Yadav who conducted a meeting at the union hall.

They shouted slogans against Pitroda.

Addressing the meeting, Verma called Pitroda’s statement as an irresponsible act and said that the statement gave an impression of feudalistic ideology. Yadav charged the members and president of NKC with opposing reservation and supporting the anti-reservationists. He demanded immediate removal of such officials.

Meanwhile, the Allahabad University students led by Dr Nirbhay Singh Patel took out a procession and submitted a memorandum, written to HRD Minister Arjun Singh, to Allahabad commissioner Lalit Verma. They said that they would leave for Delhi on Wednesday in support of reservation in higher education.

Students defending the reservation policy reached commissioner’s office and shouted slogans in support of reservation.

Addressing the students, Dr Patel said that reservation had been opposed mainly by industrialists and capitalists.

The students claimed that Dr Verma assured them of sending the memorandum to the HRD Minister and inform him about the demonstrations being staged in support of reservation across the city.
